FILIGREE

FILIGREE

The word “FILIGRANA” comes from the Latin: “filum” which means thread, and “granum” which means grain. The art of filigree, as the name implies, is made with very thin threads. The technique, handed down from generation to generation, allows these threads in gold or silver, with the thickness of a thin strand of hair, to be welded together without deforming in this peculiar operation. The items are made in manual production ,between the “filigraneiras” ( the name of the woman that made this work) and the workshops. The ancient art of filigree, developed in the 19th century, specially in the north of Portugal was bring to a rare perfection by Portuguese artisans. At J.Soares we are proud to maintain the tradition and produce the filigree just like our ancestors .Presenting collections in which we combine tradition with the modern world.
